Pre-Press Technician / Graphic Designer – Print HUB (Full-Time)

Role Introduction:

Load customer supplied electronic files for output onto the Prepress file server. Check customer’s electronic files for completeness and potential problems using the software on the Mac and Windows OS platforms. Identify missing or problematic components and communicate them to Print HUB Production Supervisor/Lead, Manager of Mail and Print Services, customer, and production personnel. Work directly with Print HUB Production Supervisor/Lead, customer, and/or production personnel as necessary to work out any problems with the job.

Role Function:

    1. Read work order as well as all notes and instructions (customer notes, digital paperwork, etc.).
    2. Use preflight software to check incoming work to determine if all elements of the job conform to Ripon specifications.
    3. Ensure that we have all the fonts needed for the job and resolve font conflicts.
    4. Check for type reflow.
    5. Identify missing images and inform the customer.
    6. Identify color issues (RGB, too many spot colors, etc.).
    7. Identify page layout issues (wrong margins, no page bleed, wrong page count, etc.).
    8. Perform basic troubleshooting.
    9. Communicate concerns found in the preflight procedure to Print HUB Production Supervisor/Lead, customer, and/or production personnel.
    10. Work directly with Print HUB Production Supervisor/Lead and customer as necessary to resolve issues/problems.
    11. Maintain all equipment related to department.
    12. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering Tree of Life’s mission.
    13. Other store duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

    1. Working knowledge of the Mac and Windows operating system.
    2. Working knowledge of the following software:
      • Adobe Acrobat
      • Adobe Acrobat Distiller
      • Adobe InDesign
      • Adobe Illustrator
      • Adobe PageMaker
      • Adobe Photoshop
      • Microsoft Office Suite
      • Modern Web Browser
      • Stuff-It
      • WinZip
    3. Working knowledge of font handling and troubleshooting.
    4. Working knowledge of external support devices (CD, DVD, Zip Disk, Flash Drive, etc.)
    5. Working knowledge of email, FTP and InSite file transfers
    6. Working knowledge of font handling on different operating systems.
    7. Working knowledge of bindery, press and mail specifications (drill allowance, margins, bleeds etc.)
    8. Has a working knowledge of PDF creation.
    9. Understanding of printing process
