General Job Description:

The Inventory Solutions department works to determine the most profitable placement of our book and general merchandise products, and the liquidation of old, unneeded items.  This happens through multiple facets including discount sales at our stores operating colleges around the country, sales on online marketplace like Amazon, returns of excess stock to suppliers, liquidation to large textbook wholesalers, or protection of stock for future use.  We also acquire books through Tree of Life’s textbook buyback program, which pays students cash for their unneeded books.

The Inventory Operations Specialist assists in data processing and handles potential returns to our list of suppliers in an ongoing process.  They also oversee the ongoing operations of our remote textbook buyback program at college campuses around the Midwest and assist in other tasks as needed.  This position requires a highly analytic and strategic thinker that has high proficiency in Excel, as well as good communication and organization skills.  This is a full-time position.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the textbook returns process for Tree of Life
    • Build returns for our Distribution Center on a monthly basis
    • Build returns for our Campus Stores located around the country, on at least a bi-annual basis
    • Maintain lists of books we will need in the future, as well as lists of non-returnable items
    • Analyze items returned to our suppliers which were then rejected, and process accordingly
    • Keep supplier return information up to date
    • Regularly report on the current status of returns and respond to questions about the returns process from suppliers and internal departments
  • Coordinate Tree of Life’s remote buyback program at campuses around the Midwest
    • Maintain relationships with campus administrators and schedule regular buyback events
    • Schedule buyers for events and make travel arrangements (hotels, vehicle, etc.)
    • Ensure proper supply levels are always maintained for the buyback program
    • Prepare buyer resources before buyback events
    • Send regular emails promoting Tree of Life’s buyback program
    • Prepare for and plan for the operation of holiday pop-up stores at select locations
    • Monitor the performance of Tree of Life’s online and on-campus buybacks
    • Rarely, travel to and carry out buyback events as needed

  • Basic proficiency in computer programs, such as Google Drive, Gmail, and Word
  • Moderate proficiency and experience in Excel preferred
